Yard Goats Drop Rumble Ponies, 5-3
|
The Hartford Yard Goats knocked off the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 5-3, in Eastern League action at NYSEG Stadium. Hartford pitcher and Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, native Alfonso Hernandez had an outstanding performance. Hernandez, now 7-7, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Hartford is now 50-63, Binghamton 59-54.
Hartford right fielder Scottie Evans contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the seventh. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 48th hit of the season and put the Yard Goats ahead, 5-2.
"Alfonso just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Hartford manager Bill Medina.
