Vernon Jones knocked in 4 runs to help Somerset beat Portland, 5-1. The first baseman collected 1 single, 1 double, and 1 home run. Somerset, at 67-34, occupies first place in the Eastern League Southwest Division.

Jones contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Somerset in the top of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Jones took a changeup from Fletch Spurgeon and stroked the home run to right-center. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Patriots to leap in front, 4-1.

"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Jones told the Somerset News.
