SeaWolves Sink Frigates, 3-2
|
The Erie SeaWolves overcame a good performance by Halifax center fielder Karim Barnes to knock off Halifax, 3-2, at Jerry Uht Park. Barnes went 3 for 3 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Scott Johnson earned the win for Erie. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 1. With the win, he raised his record to 6-7. Dan Hughes earned his 24th save, after closing out the game.
Johnny Rodriguez had a big run-scoring double for the SeaWolves in the bottom of the first inning. With Erie leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a sinker from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Peyton Snyder and swatted a double to right. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the SeaWolves ahead, 3-0.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Rodriguez told the Erie News. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
The SeaWolves now have a record of 52-49 with the win over Halifax.
