Sea Dogs Lose, 8-1, at MGM Park
|
The exploits of third baseman Jake Rhéaume, who is tied for 8th in the EL in home runs with 14, helped the Halifax Frigates defeat the Portland Sea Dogs, 8-1. Rhéaume went 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Paul Timmis picked up the win, lifting his record to 5-12 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 0 in 6.1 innings, while yielding 1 run. The Frigates go to 46-50, putting them 5th in the Eastern League North Division.
Johnny MacCarthy had a big run-scoring double for the Frigates in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Halifax leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Rupert Nava and swatted a double to left. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Frigates ahead, 3-1.
"The effort wasn't good enough," said losing manager Matt Aguirre.
