Wells goes 3-for-4, Patriots Move to 1-0
The Somerset Patriots put the giddy home crowd in an even more jubilant mood after beating the Lancaster Barnstormers in the season opener at Arm & Hammer Park. Shortstop Dennis Wells won plaudits for Somerset. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was Thurston Hill. He's now 1-0. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits for the Patriots. Pepper Canney was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

With Somerset leading 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Wells hit a fastball from Marco Guevara for a grand slam home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Patriots ahead, 8-1.

"We understand we didn't play our best baseball," said losing manager Josh Bieber. "We'll shower it off and be ready to compete."
