Metros Slip Past RubberDucks, 1-0
|
Metros Ballpark was rocking after an exciting Metros win.
In a low-scoring affair between the Quebec Metros and the Akron RubberDucks, pitcher Lee Barnes was the difference between victory and defeat. The Quebec right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 1-0 Metros win. The Metros saw their win-loss record go to 39-42. At the same time, the RubberDucks fell to 44-37.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 25-year old left fielder J.T. Simpson had a real shot to win the game. Akron pitcher Denis Lam was determined not to let it happen. But with no outs, Simpson hit a run-scoring single. The Metros had a walk-off triumph.
"We had a good game plan," Barnes said, "and we were able to execute it."
