Grizzlies Trump Sea Dogs, 4-1
|
Gateway Grizzlies starter Quentin Schaffer led his team to victory over the Portland Sea Dogs, 4-1. The right-hander was locked-in. Schaffer yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 1-1. The save was credited to Jeremiah Huggard, his 19th.
The Sea Dogs had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Grizzlies going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old center fielder Hánnibal Hernández came to the plate. Hernández hit a bases-clearing double on a first pitch slider from Portland hurler Peter Patterson. It was Hernández's 10th double of the year.
Hernández attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
At 35-36, the Grizzlies find themselves in 5th place in the Eastern League Southwest Division.
