The Altoona Curve got a superb performance from pitcher Sancho Ortega, but the Gateway Grizzlies still won the game, 4-3. Ortega threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Jeremiah Huggard, now 2-1, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Gateway has now won 4 straight.
The decisive blow was delivered by Giovanni Hawkins in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a solo home run off 22-year old right-handed pitcher Konstantin Yeomans to win the game for Gateway. The home crowd went nuts.
"I'm glad I got one I could handle. Glad I got the barrel on it," said Hawkins.
