Floundering Hops Lose 8th Straight
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
The Montreal Expos grabbed a win, 5-4, over the Portland Hops at Olympic Stadium. Montreal left fielder Merlin Mattson was 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. Montreal is now 41-91, Portland 48-84.
Freddie Lovato was the walk-off hero for Montreal. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Expos shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Things will change for us," said Portland manager Nelson Espinoza. "When things change, we'll get clicking."
