Pirates Losers, 2-1, to Boston
|
The Boston Red Sox converted a terrific effort from starter Jake Laviolette into a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Fenway Park. The Red Sox won the game by a final score of 2-1. Boston reliever Vincente Proctor was the winner. His record is now 6-6. Carson Loveday took the loss. Daniel Seaton earned the save for Boston, his 31st of the year.
The Red Sox got a big at-bat from designated hitter Tyler Rice. For the game, Rice was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 13th home run of the season gave Boston a 2-1 lead.
Afterward, Pittsburgh manager Maximiliano Godoy said: "We were guessing wrong on pitches, and that's something we've got to get away from."
The last-place Red Sox improved to 61-71.
