The Minnesota Twins turned back the Memphis Blues, 6-5, at Target Field. Stanfield Reaves, in particular, had a fine performance. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. The win belongs to Murray Yallop in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Aaron Yeomans took the loss for Memphis. The first-place Twins improved to 80-50.
Had Loren Cortez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Cortez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Twins.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Minnesota manager Christian Gibson.
