Down to Defeat Goes Montreal, 2-1
|
In a tightly-contested game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos, pitcher Cody Woten was outstanding. The Philadelphia right-hander, who finished 3rd in the AL in innings pitched with 208.2 in 2063, propelled his team's 2-1 win. The winning pitcher was Woten, now 10-9. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. The win puts the Phillies at 75-54, while the Expos drop to 63-66.
Finn Olsen had a big run-scoring double for the Phillies in the bottom of the second inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a changeup from fan favorite Cory Millan and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Phillies ahead, 2-0.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Montreal manager Mike DeBlois. "The effort was great."
