Johnson 5-for-5 Against California
|
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Phil Johnson -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Oriole Park at Camden Yards and paced the 11-2 Orioles win over the California Angels.
After his dynamite batting performance, the Baltimore second baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."
His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Phil Johnson singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Aydan Ambrosino in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Neil Starr in the 8th.
Thus far this season in 117 games, Johnson is batting .222 with 21 home runs, 54 RBIs and 66 runs scored. He has 93 hits in 419 at-bats.
