The Virginia Black Bears topped the New York Yankees by a score of 5-4. Leading the way was first baseman Rodd Marshall. Marshall was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. It could have been a different outcome for Virginia, had it not been for Peter McFadden, the 26-year old right fielder . McFadden contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Virginia up, 2-0.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said New York manager Nate Williams. "But we decided not to take it."
