Fans watched the Portland Hops and the Chicago Cubs fight to the finish.

The Portland Hops beat the Chicago Cubs, 5-4, at The BeerGarden. The win was due in part to third baseman Raymond Armstrong, who went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Jeffrey Robinson, the winner, improved to 7-11. He held the Cubs to 3 runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Justin Adkins recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 22 for 26.

The Hops got an important contribution from left fielder Randy Najera, who in the bottom of the third punched a first pitch fastball into center for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Hops ahead, 5-2.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Portland manager Alberto Velasquez.

At 45-80, Portland is in last place in the Western Region Northwest Division.
