Red Sox Drop Contest, 4-3, to Pittsburgh
|
In a close game at Fenway Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Boston Red Sox, 4-3. Pittsburgh designated hitter Dan Crain stood apart with his performance. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Aroldis Pérez, now 3-2, was credited with the win. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Pittsburgh now has a 3-game win streak.
Crain had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 1-2 fastball from Owen Holiday, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Pirates a 4-2 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Crain.
After the game, Pittsburgh manager Eddie Dolly applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
