Starting pitcher Tom Spears had a solid game. He was a big reason the San Francisco Giants throttled the New York Yankees, 5-2. San Francisco is now 73-41, while New York is 74-40.

Sterling Harris, who finished 3rd in the AL in batting average with .332 last year, took New York hurler Ethelred Siewert deep in the bottom of the seventh. His 3-run home run put the Giants on top, 5-2. In all, Harris had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Tom was Tom," said Giants manager Miles Waterbury. "He gave it all he's got."
