The Boston Red Sox had to weather a strong performance from Oakland pitcher Rafaello Cantu before claiming a 2-1 win in 19 innings. Cantu went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. The victory puts Boston at 28-80.
Cantu gave opposing hitters fits all game. He allowed 1 hit in 7.1 innings while striking out 11 in a fine outing, but the Red Sox didn't give him much run support.
