The Memphis Blues topped the Kansas City Royals, 6-1, in Eastern Region action at Kauffman Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Memphis pitcher and Avon Lake, Ohio, native Leighton Rodriques. The winning pitcher was Rodriques, now 10-6. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Aaron Yeomans recorded the save for Memphis, his 7th of the season.

Julien Straton, the fan favorite , had a direct impact on the outcome. Straton contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Memphis up, 2-1.

"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Straton told the Memphis Daily News. "Whatever it takes."

Memphis now has a record of 59-48 with the win.
