Expos Edge Past Mariners, 2-1
|
Seattle got a big-time effort from pitcher Jonah Dunn, but it wasn't enough to keep the Montreal Expos from winning the game, 2-1. Dunn threw 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Zach Strain, now 5-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. After today's action, Montreal sits at 62-40; Seattle slips to 70-32.
Had Daryl Henderson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Henderson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Expos.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Montreal manager Dirk Botelho.
