The Seattle Mariners picked up a win at T-Mobile Park, topping the Texas Rangers, 6-1. On the mound for Seattle was right-hander R.J. Luther. He played a principal role in the triumph. Levi Gonzales was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Justus Van Eps. The first-place Mariners now sit at 56-46.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Jake Ellis came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Texas pitcher Justus Van Eps, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Seattle on top, 2-1.

"I felt good up there," said Ellis. "I saw the ball well."
