Indians Score Late to Nip Reds, 5-4
|
Despite a great performance by Cincinnati left fielder Lawrence Carla, the Cleveland Indians defeated the Reds by the score of 5-4 at Tecumseh Field. Carla went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Cleveland reliever Ken Quinones picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Jake Prendergast took the loss. Francisco Vergara closed the door for Cleveland, picking up his 34th save of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Nick Dunstan came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Jake Prendergast, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 5-4.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Dunstan, "and then get after it again."
By defeating Cincinnati, the second-place Indians improved to 59-41.
