Julian Svehla was outstanding against New York. The right-hander, who finished 2nd in the NL in wins with 16 last year, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Tigers 5-1 win. Detroit has a record of 50-43, placing them third in the National League Sparrow Division.

Svehla, who dominated for Detroit, earned the victory to move to 6-8. He was in control the whole game, scattering 2 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 9. New York batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.

"I just kind of blacked out and executed my pitches," said Svehla.
