Braves Pick Up 2-1 Win Over Kansas City
Atlanta beat Kansas City in a rain-soaked ballgame.

Atlanta starter Doug Freligh put a stranglehold on the Kansas City offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Braves to a 2-1 win. Nate Southard got the save, the 5th for him this season.

Atlanta relied on the bat of Valentin Suárez to get the win. The designated hitter ripped a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Braves ahead, 2-0. For the game, Suárez had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.

"Winning is contagious," said Suárez. "We're looking forward to the next game."

Atlanta improves to 56-37 with the win. They lead their division by 4½ games.
