The Fresno Falcons pounded the Virginia Black Bears, 15-1, at Savemart Center. Fresno right fielder Angelo Meijer had a solid game. He was 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Falcons. Anton Helguera, the winner, improved to 7-7. He held Virginia to 1 run on 2 hits over 6.2 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. Fresno, at 60-33, occupies first place in the National League Rivera Division.

Fresno got a big at-bat from Visalia, California native Nils Sherwood, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a 3-run home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the Falcons ahead, 8-1.

"I thought we'd at least be more competitive," said losing manager A.J. Trentman.
