Oakland Decked, 9-8, by Mets
|
Mark Stansberry led New York to a win over Oakland. The final score was 9-8. Stansberry collected 2 runs batted in, while going 3 for 4 at the plate. The left fielder also scored 2 times. The winning pitcher was Chad Beckner. He's now 5-7. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits for the Mets. Mal Ballard got the save, his 7th in 7 chances.
Stansberry contributed in the bottom of the first. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, he hit a 2-run single. It was one at-bat among others that helped New York get the win.
Mets manager Jim Cheatham wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
The Mets sit in 4th place in the American League Sandoval Division with a record of 37-53.
