The Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals, 6-4, at Tecumseh Field. The Indians got a fine performance from second baseman Kenny Merola, who was 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 4 RBI. Francisco Vergara closed it out for Cleveland, earning his 27th save. With the victory, the Indians record stands at 49-34.

Merola had a consequential at-bat in the bottom of the fifth for the Indians. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Cleveland trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single.

"I like winning," Merola told the Cleveland Herald. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."
