Giants Lose at Home, 8-5
|
St. Louis took on San Francisco in front of a lively crowd.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the San Francisco Giants, 8-5, in part because of catcher Lyle Mejia. Mejia was 3 for 4 with 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs for the Cardinals. Cory Neal got the win, improving to 3-4. He held the Giants to 3 runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2.
With the game tied, 3-3, in the top of the seventh, Mejia had a key at-bat for St. Louis. With a runner on 3rd, Mejia hit a run-scoring single off Mark Weiss, making the score 4-3, Cardinals.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Mejia.
The second-place Giants dropped to 43-38.
