Raucous Ripken Stadium Crowd Propels Ironbirds to 3-1 Victory; Series Tied at 3
|
The Aberdeen Ironbirds and the State College Spikes will take the Regional Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation, the Ironbirds beat the Spikes, 3-1, at Ripken Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Aberdeen right-hander Dusty Ells had a big role in the win. He threw 5.0 innings allowing 1 run.
Farid Cruz went 2-3 with 2 singles for Aberdeen. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Cruz had a clutch at-bat. Facing State College hurler James Born, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Ironbirds a 2-1 lead.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Aberdeen manager Chad Gutierrez said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.
