Jones Handcuffs Stampede, Orioles Seize 1-0 Advantage in R+CS
|
The stakes were high. Chase Jones was ready.
The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Ballpark of Medicine Hat today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Hampton Orioles to victory in Game 1 of the R+ Championship Series. Jones held the Medicine Hat Stampede to 3 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 7. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for Hampton, which now leads 1-0.
Jones pitched a complete game for Hampton. The 22-year-old right-hander was charged with no runs on 3 hits. He struck out 7 during his 109-pitch performance.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Jones. "Successful pitchers do it."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Medicine Hat in Medicine Hat.
