Voyagers Clip Ghosts 2-1 in DS Contest
|
The rookie looked like he belonged out there.
The Great Falls Voyagers sent 21-year-old left-hander Ron Dykstra to the mound today for a high-pressure playoff start and he repaid their confidence, quieting the Casper Ghosts on a day where the Voyagers struggled to produce runs of their own. In the end, Great Falls cobbled together enough to take the 2-1 decision. The win gave Great Falls a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 Divisional Series.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Lou Salvesen came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Casper pitcher Walter Valiente, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Great Falls on top, 2-1.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Casper skipper Charles Chaney.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Centene Stadium in Great Falls.
