The Kissimmee Kumquats powered past the hometown Pembroke Pines Herons, 4-2, in the opener of the Regional Championship Series at Charlotte Sports Park. Kissimmee center fielder Lou Pugh was 2-4 with a triple. He scored 2 times, to lead the charge. The Kumquats now lead the series 1-0.
Carson Stevens had a direct impact on the outcome. Stevens contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put Kissimmee up, 3-0.
Kissimmee manager Max Côté commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Charlotte Sports Park in Pembroke Pines.
