Riding the 3-hit performance of designated hitter Max Smallwood, the Syracuse Chiefs got a road win against the Tucson Sidewinders, 14-9, in Game 2 of the AAA Championship Series. Smallwood was 3-6 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4 for the Chiefs, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.

Gurabo, Puerto Rico-born Sergio Diaz came through in the clutch. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded and the Chiefs trailing 8-7, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Syracuse on top.

"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Diaz said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Victory Field in Syracuse.
