Sun Dogs Beat Fighting Shrimp 5-2 to Start WCS
The Miramar Sun Dogs faced a tough opponent in Key Largo Fighting Shrimp pitcher Ryan Allyn, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series, which they now lead 1-0. The Sun Dogs won 5-2 at Roger Dean Stadium, despite the Fighting Shrimp getting a strong start from right-hander Allyn, who went 5 innings and allowed 1 run.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Harvey Dionne came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Key Largo pitcher Fred Rich, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a bases-clearing double. It was a game-changer, putting Miramar on top, 5-2.

In postgame comments, Dionne told the Miramar Today: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium in Miramar.
