The Dayton Dragons powered past the hometown Westside Woolly Mammoths, 4-2, in the opener of the Wild Card Series at Municipal Stadium. Dayton starting pitcher Terry Gillar threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Dragons now lead the series 1-0.

Dayton used the hitting of Alejandro Meza to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Dragons on top, 3-0. For the game, Meza had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We're happy," Meza told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Municipal Stadium in Utica.
