Wild Card Series Game 1 Victory for Shahinian and Lakewood
The Wild Card Series got off to a quiet start, with the host Lakewood BlueClaws taking a low-scoring, 3-0 win over the Rome Braves. Lakewood right-hander Alex Shahinian was marvelous at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The BlueClaws now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

With scoring opportunities rare, the BlueClaws had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when shortstop Gabe Diffley hit a 2-run home run. The home run came off Scott English and made the score 3-0, BlueClaws. Diffley went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"Makes our job easier," said Diffley, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta.
