Bowling Green Tops Asheville, 3-0, Claims 1-0 Series Lead
|
Bowling Green Hot Rods manager Jesus Sánchez knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.
Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 24-year-old right-hander John Artiaga silenced the host Asheville Tourists at McCormick Field. The Hot Rods shut out the Tourists by a final score of 3-0, to give the Hot Rods a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.
In his 78-pitch effort, Artiaga allowed no runs on 2 hits over 5.1 innings. He walked 0 and struck out 9.
"We're playing like gangbusters right now," said Artiaga.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at McCormick Field in Asheville.
