Yankees Beat Mountaineers, 4-1, in Series Opener
|
The Pulaski Yankees wasted no time taking the lead in the Wild Card Series, beating the Erwin Mountaineers at Ballpark of Edmonton by the score of 4-1. The win gives Pulaski a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Yankees right-hander Jeffrey Deal threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball.
Pulaski used a clutch hit from Austin DuBose to get the win. The second baseman drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"Bottom line," said Erwin skipper Eddie Wilbur, "we didn't play well enough to win."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ballpark of Edmonton in Erwin.
