Their bats were silent and St. Petersburg had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Flying Squirrels struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 25-year-old starter Jason Mack. The left-hander quieted the Arkansas Travelers at The Diamond to help St. Petersburg take the 3-1 decision and seize a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.

The Travelers had few good swings against Mack, the left-hander, who threw 90 pitches over 7 innings. He allowed just no runs on 2 hits.

St. Petersburg manager Flip Brooks called it "a pretty good win."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Diamond in St. Petersburg.
