When he got to Altoona, Roger Giles was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Wild Card Series.

The 22-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the visiting Akron RubberDucks, 11-0, in a remarkable performance at People's Natural Gas Field. With the win, the Curve took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.

The Curve liked what they saw from Giles. The 22-year- old pitcher had a commanding presence on the mound, limiting the RubberDucks to no runs on 2 hits over 7.1 innings, and striking out 5.

"We did more than enough to get the win," said Giles.

Game 6 is scheduled for Friday at Canal Park in Akron.
