Nicholas Fry and the Wichita Pilots opened the Wild Card Series in brilliant fashion, traveling to Altoona and shutting out the host Curve at People's Natural Gas Field, 5-0, to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Fry, the Pilots right-hander, threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball.

Fry delivered a quality start for Wichita. The 6-foot-1 right-hander allowed no earned runs on 2 hits over 6 innings of work.

Said losing manager Matt Hartford: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at People's Natural Gas Field in Altoona.
