Gonzáles, Maine Start Wild Card Series Strong with Home Win
|
The Maine Grizzlies started the Wild Card Series in style, downing the visiting Wilkes-Barre Barons at Chukchansi Park by a score of 9-5 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Grizzlies third baseman Ricardo Gonzáles went 2-5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4.
A key moment came with two out in the bottom of the second. That's when Gonzáles hit a cutter from Simón Veneto for a grand slam home run, putting Maine up, 5-0.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Maine manager Kyle Ramsay said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Chukchansi Park in Portland.
