Ottawa Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 2-1
|
The Ottawa Oddballs have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Syracuse Chiefs, winning, 11-4, at Ottawa Ballpark. Oddballs catcher Lane Hogue went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The win cuts the deficit facing the Oddballs to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Henry Beilfuss came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Syracuse pitcher Demott Washer, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Ottawa on top, 6-4.
"We're happy," Beilfuss told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Ottawa Ballpark in Ottawa.
