Estevez, Chiefs Wallop Barons in Game 5 of WCS
|
The Syracuse Chiefs have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Birmingham Barons, winning, 8-1, at Raley Field. Chiefs third baseman Sireno Estevez was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win cuts the deficit facing the Chiefs to 3-2 in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.
Syracuse used a clutch at-bat from Ben Salazar to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"It's nice to see a lot of guys make contributions," said Chiefs manager Abe Blowers.
The next game is set to be played for Friday, September 21st , 2063 at Victory Field in Syracuse.
