Wild Card Series Game 1 Victory for Sparks and Santa Cruz
Their bats were silent and Santa Cruz had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Cruisers struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 24-year-old starter Daniel Sparks. The right-hander quieted the Napa Silverados at LoanMart Field to help Santa Cruz take the 3-0 decision and seize a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.

Sidney Trevino dealt the Silverados a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with runners on 1st and 2nd and Santa Cruz leading 1-0, Trevino hit a 1-2 changeup for a run-scoring single.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Cruisers manager Jake Braithwaite said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at LoanMart Field in Santa Cruz.
