The St. Petersburg Flying Squirrels started the Wild Card Series in style, downing the visiting Corpus Christi Hooks at The Diamond by a score of 11-6 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Flying Squirrels catcher Dennis Tacang went 2 for 2 with 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times.

Ezra Wallace took Corpus Christi hurler Cayden Pettus deep in the bottom of the second. His 2-run home run put the Flying Squirrels on top, 2-0. In all, Wallace had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Tacang. "You've got to get results."
