Road Win Lifts Bakersfield to 1-0 Lead in WCS
|
The Bakersfield Blaze started the Wild Card Series in style today, winning on the road against the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field by a score of 7-4 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Blaze right-hander Noah Griffith threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball.
Bakersfield relied on the hitting of Wayde Romulus to pick up the win. The shortstop clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Blaze on top, 4-0. For the game, Romulus had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Every team in baseball loses," Nuts manager George French said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at John Thurman Field in Modesto.
