Hollywood Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in WCS
|
The Hollywood Spoonbills moved to within one game of the Divisional Series, downing the visiting Pompano Beach Aqua Sox at Roger Dean Stadium by a score of 5-3. Spoonbills right-hander Wilbur Dembek had a strong outing in which he threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Spoonbills a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Wild Card Series.
Danny Martin hit a run-scoring triple off Addy States in the bottom of the first, which put the Spoonbills in front, 1-0. Martin had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 3.
"We're happy," Dembek told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium in Hollywood.
