Wild Card Series Game 1 Victory for Gomez and Pulaski
When he got to Pulaski, Oliver Gomez was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Wild Card Series.

The 19-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the visiting Harlan Smokies, 1-0, in a remarkable performance at Calfee Park. With the win, the Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.

Gomez, who was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, threw 75 pitches over 5.1 innings, while allowing no runs.

"Every team in baseball loses," Smokies manager Carson Lee said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Calfee Park in Pulaski.
