Auburn Wins Again, 2-1
|
Already in trouble in the Divisional Series, the Vermont Lake Monsters knew they needed a strong outing from their starter and good production on offense. They got one of the two.
The Lake Monsters failed to put much together on offense and wasted an impressive 6.1-inning effort from right-handed starter Heriberto De León, falling, 2-1, to the Auburn Doubledays at Centennial Field. The loss put the Lake Monsters in an even deeper hole -- they now trail Auburn 2-0.
Auburn used a timely hit from Gabe Diniz to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Doubledays ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Diniz attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Falcon Park in Auburn.
