Jawns Edge Indians, 2-1, to Open WCS
|
The 21-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Kinston Indians worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Roldán Aldaco seemed like a risky move for the Indians, but it was one of the few things that went right at H.P. Hunnicutt Field. Aldaco tossed 5.1 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Kinston dropped a 2-1 decision. With the win, Delco took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Wild Card Series.
Wendell Hanson's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning was a big one for Delco. Coming to bat with one out, the bases loaded and Delco trailing 1-0, the pinch hitter hit a run-scoring single.
"Tough loss," said Kinston manager Jacob Tyrrell. "This one will sting for a while."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at H.P. Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.
