Starting pitcher Simon Masson gave the Grand Junction Rockies a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Lethbridge Black Diamonds, 2-1, at Howard Johnson Field. Grand Junction, at 40-20, is 4 games up in the Pioneer League South Division.
The Rockies got a big at-bat from third baseman Walt Lininger. For the game, Lininger went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Grand Junction a 2-0 lead.
"They were just a little bit better than us," Lethbridge manager Wendell Pratt said.
